Sirens Photoshoot Progress
Well for the past few months we’ve been steadily working away at our Siren’s Photoshoot set and costuming, and we finally have a few tiny sneak peeks for you to enjoy and some facts outlining what we’ve achieved so far:
• All of these scales have been hand cut and painted, this takes 12 seconds per scale.
• Our tail prototype caters for sizes 4-12 and includes 1400 scales.
• Our corset prototype is a 20” waist and includes 354 scales.
• Our bra prototype is a size 10B and includes approx 250 scales.
• Each scale takes 10 seconds to cut, and 2 seconds to paint.
• The base of the tail is neoprene and it takes one whole day to cut and construct the base ie 9 hours.
• Adding scales to the tail prototype took 14 hours.
• Adding scales to the corset took about 3 hours.
• Adding scales to the bra also took approx 3 hours.
SO, because I like to understand how long each item is going to take us to make, and I also need to estimate how many scales we will need, our prototypes can tell us:
• Tail prototype took us: 4.6 hours or scale creation + 14 hours of adding scales to tail + 9 hours of cutting and constructing the tail = 27 hours so far.
• Corset prototype took us: 1.25 hours of scale creation + 3 hours of adding scales = 4.25 hours so far.
• Bra prototype is approximately the same as the corset, plus adding the seaweed flourishes and crystals = 8 hours approximately
We still need to add the tail fins and the side fins to both the tails and the corsets so stay tuned for the total time.
We have two more tails to construct. One caters for sizes 14-22, and one caters for sizes 24-30.
We have 4 more corsets to scale from 24” up to 38”.
We have an array of bras to scale. We are working on the exact sizes, but roughly 6-10 more bra options.
SO, that means we have minimum 80 hours of bras ahead (based on 10 more bras), 17 hours or corsets, 54 hours of tails. All of these timings are based on the prototype which is the smallest. So let’s say we add hours to each of the above because there is more work involved:
• Bras: 80 hours – let’s call that 90 hours
• Corsets: 17 hours – let’s call that 23 hours
• Tails: 54 hours – lets call that 70 hours
The set is WELL underway, and I didn’t time myself working on this, but I’d say it’s take a solid week, perhaps a few days more. We have yet to add bugs, and lighting so stay tuned!
Finally we still need to make headpieces, ribcage-esque seaweed jewellery, tails fins, side fins, paint the backdrop, and add lighting and bioluminescent bugs to the set.
This might sound daunting to most, but this is what we love to do. And that’s why our shoots are priced as such, because you literally can’t do this style of shoot ANYWHERE else in the world! Woo!
